Well, I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a challenging year for all of us.
I would like to focus on our young adults. With our busy and stressful lives, it’s easy to forget about our wonderful quirky teenagers who can have equally stressful lives, just different circumstances. Many will be at university, flatting for the first time and attempting to budget.
Moreover, their hormones are still all over the place making them difficult to understand and to us parents seem slightly crazy. One way we can support them through these turning points in their lives is to feed them well and encourage them to eat healthily.
Our young men need their fruit and veg and it can be a good idea to leave a box of these goodies on their back doorstep, adding some men’s multi-vitamins are a good idea too. If all else fails, remind him that women are far more attracted to a man who takes care of his body - sneaky but effective.
If you get the chance, outline some of the many positive aspects of these foods that might appeal to him. They will give him more energy on the sports field, are cheaper than takeaways, and best yet – they don’t have to be cooked! Nutritional supplements such as, Barley grass, Whey protein, Chlorella all play significant roles in increased energy levels, weight regulation and keeping the colon clean, along with many more benefits. The best way is to make smoothies with these nutrients, adding your favourite fruits in the morning.
Stay in touch especially when family gatherings like birthdays etc are coming up. This way you can catch-up on what’s happening in his life and if there may be any problems, he may need some support with at the time.
Whilst catching up, don’t forget to hand over that large bag of mixed nuts, grains and seeds to put in the fridge when he gets home, excellent for reducing cholesterol, great brain food and good source of protein, not only that, they taste fantastic.
Lean meat, fish and turkey should also be part of his diet as a healthy addition. Remember, even if he only listens to ten percent of your good-health advice, that is 10 per cent healthier than he would otherwise be.
